DeFi: Handling transaction history when an unsupported chain becomes supported after manual upload

This page explains what to do when a previously unsupported blockchain becomes supported by cryptact.

1. Introduction

If you previously added transaction history manually for a blockchain that was not supported at the time, and the chain later becomes supported for automatic syncing, adding the wallet address to cryptact may result in duplicate entries, as the same transactions will be automatically imported from the wallet.

Case example:

  • Solana was not supported by cryptact until the end of 2024, so the user manually uploaded transaction history using a custom file.
  • Starting in 2025, cryptact began supporting Solana, making it possible to automatically import transactions via wallet address sync.
  • You want to keep the manually uploaded history for 2024, and use wallet sync to import only the transactions from 2025 onward.

2. Solution

You should first add your wallet address to cryptact to import your transaction history. However, please note that all historical transactions within the wallet will be imported, not just recent ones. If you have already manually uploaded Solana transaction history for previous years (e.g., up to 2024), this may result in duplicate entries.

Therefore, we recommend that you first complete the tax calculation for the 2024 tax year and lock the data. Once data is locked, no additional transactions can be added to that year, by design. This means that after locking your data up to 2024, you can safely add your wallet address and only the transactions from 2025 onward will be imported.

Important Notes:

  • Once a tax year has been locked, you will no longer be able to add or edit transactions for that year. Therefore, please make sure to complete your calculations before locking the data. (You can unlock the data later)
  • Data locking can only be applied on a per-year basis; it cannot be done mid-year. Please also note that in some cases, duplicate entries may occur depending on your data setup.
