How to Upload a Exchange Files Correctly

This article explains what you need to be aware of when you are uploading an exchange file.

Please refer to the help page below for instructions on how to upload the custom file correctly.

How to Upload a Custom File Correctly

1.Do not open or edit csv files after downloading

If you open or edit csv files after downloading them from the exchange, they will become corrupted and you will not be able to upload them to cryptact. Please check below help page for more details:

How to resolve”If you opened or resaved your file, you may not be able to upload”

2.Upload files by year or month in order from oldest to newest

When uploading multiple files from the same exchange into the same upload box, please always upload them in order from the oldest transaction date file to the newest.

Some exchanges limit the period you can download at one time, or the files may be output by month or by year. Therefore, you may end up with multiple files for one exchange.

Because cryptact is designed to prevent duplicate entries, in the same exchange and same upload box it will only import trades after the “latest transaction timestamp” that has already been uploaded.
If the upload order is incorrect, please refer to the help page and re-upload starting from the file with the oldest date.
Cause and Solution for "The transactions are locked date"

Note: The “Latest transaction date in the history” can be checked at the bottom-right of each upload box. (Image example: MEXC Global/Trades)

Example ) In the “Binance/Spot Trade” section, suppose there are three files A, B and C.

  • A:2023/1/1 – 2023/12/31

  • B:2023/10/1 – 2024/4/30

  • C:2024/1/1 – 2024/12/31

If you upload them in the sequence A → B → C, then the full history from 2023/1/1 to 2024/12/31 will be reflected.

Please note: already‐loaded history periods are automatically skipped by the system, so you don’t need to worry about duplicate entries.

However, if you upload C first, the “Latest transaction date in the history” will become 2024/12/31, and you will not be able to upload files A and B afterwards. (You will need to delete C and re-upload them in the order A → B → C.)

3.Make sure the correct time zone is selected

When it comes to the 'Timezone' displayed on the upload screen, typically there is no need for you to make changes. However, caution is necessary if an orange message appears on the screen, as shown in the example below, especially on some exchanges.

For instance, in the case of Coinbase, the 'Timezone' is set to 'cryptact Default' (which in this case corresponds to the timezone: Etc/UTC). However, when downloading the transaction history file from Coinbase, there may be rare instances where the file's transaction timestamps are updated to match the time settings on your computer. While no changes are necessary if the file's transaction timestamps are in Etc/UTC time, if they are displayed in Japan time, please change the timezone on the screen to 'Asia/Tokyo' as shown below."

4.If you have multiple accounts at one exchange, merge the files before uploading

If you hold multiple accounts at the same exchange (for example: a main account, a sub-account), please consolidate the files before uploading.

As mentioned in section ① above, editing the CSV file by opening it directly can cause file corruption, so refer to the help page and use a text editor (such as Notepad) to merge the files (i.e., copy the transactions from one file into the other). Even if the transactions in the merged file are not in chronological order, the system will reflect them in the correct time-order once uploaded.
3.If you want to check or edit the contents of a file before uploading it
